Korean Jindos - Facts and Myths

There are a variety of myths concerning Korean Jindos. This is surely due to their history and unique temperament traits. Some stories are evidently based on facts. Thus, a Korean Jindo dogs pack is once said to have killed a lion. This story looks very true-to-life. In fact, the Korean Jindo dog is very powerful and agile. It has strong hunting instincts and tends to be aggressive towards other animals.

It is interesting to know that Korean Jindo females are very devoted parents. The breed has a tendency to escape homes. However, if a dam has a litter born in a home, it will hardly escape it. As a rule, a Jindo litter is about 3-6- puppies.

Korean Jindo dogs start to go into heat very early. However, they do not reach maturity sooner than at two years old. The gestation period is from 60 to 65 days.

Korean Jindos - Old Customs

It is customary for the Koreans to eat dogs. Jindo dogs may also serve as dinner even though the breed is protected in Korea. Anti-cruelty groups are trying to stop this practice. However, this is very hard to do due to mentality of the Koreans who consider it OK to eat dogs, although the younger generation seems to be reluctant on practicing this custom. Thus, the practice of eating dogs, Korean Jindos being among them, is being abolished very slowly.
